The Kenya National Parents association has praised the Ministry of Education on the manner in which it handled this year's Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.
Association's national chairman Nicholas Maina has further commended public primary schools for the improved KCPE results compared the last years.
Speaking in Eldoret on Wednesday, Maiyo noted that good performance by candidates in public schools was an indication that changes in the management of national examinations were bearing fruits.
"It's good to see public school candidates fairly compete with their private counterparts and this is just one of the indications that the exams management had been improved and malpractices curbed," Maiyo said.
He, however, challenged private schools to put more emphasis on imparting knowledge to students instead of focusing only on passing the examinations.
"I believe once all the loopholes that were being manipulated to cheat during national examinations are sealed, private schools will have no option but to change their approach of teaching for the benefit of a child in future," he said.
While releasing results for this year's KCPE on Tuesday, Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i said performance for students in public schools across the country.
