Mashimoni parents have complained of the poor condition of toilets in the living premises and estates.
The parents have blamed the area house caretakers and landlords on what they have termed as negligence despite the fact that they pay monthly house rent but the state of the toilets never improves. The parents noted that the area house caretakers and landlords have neglected them and do not care much for how they live provided they pay their rent.
“Soon April rains will begin and the area will be flooded with human waste. Something needs to be done immediately before we get infected with weird diseases. We have complained to the caretakers and landlords till to date nothing has been done to improve the situation. NEMA should intervene and save the situation now or these estates be closed down until the toilet conditions are improved, "said Pauline Kirima.
The parents are regretting living in such an environment and paying monthly house rent. They are in fear that their children are at risk, especially young children who go to such toilets each and every time.
‘‘We live by the grace of God. In such poor toilet conditions yet cholera has not attacked us by God’s grace. If landlords are not going to improve this, they should not expect rent for a while,’’ Johannes Matoke said.
Efforts to reach the area caretakers and landlords did not bare fruit since their phones were switched off.
