Parents who do not take care of their children have been warned that they will be taken to court and prosecuted for the same.
Speaking on Thursday in Kaewa location, Mananja location chief Raphael Kamuti called upon the residents to take responsibility and take care of their young ones instead of abandoning them with their old grandparents.
This followed an unfortunate accident that happened in Kasuvilo village in Kaewa which left two young boys aged 4 and 2 years dead. The two children were buried in their house after the roof of their mad hut collapsed following heavy rains.
According to Kamuti the parents of the children left them with their aged grandparents.
“Parents who do not take responsibility and instead abandoning their children are breaking the law and I will ensure they are arraigned in court,” said Kamuti.
The residents have however urged the chief to ensure the business owners who have uncovered toilet holes in the market areas have covered the dangerous holes to avoid accidents.
The residents complained that Kaewa town has many unfinished toilets that have been left uncovered which pose a great risk to children playing during the day and residents who can trip and get hurt.
