The parents of an 11 months old baby - who was found with 14 needles lodged in her body have been released by a Thika Court on a bond of sh300000 and a surety of a similar amount.

The two Isaac Gachure (41) and Jacinta Ndunge (31) had on 19 December's applied to be released on bond on leniency terms.

The two parents had been arraigned in court on 4 December after doctors at Thika level successfully removed 13 of 14 sewing needles lodged in the child s body on December 2.

However, Senior Resident Magistrate Grace Omodho warned the two that the bond will be withdrawn incase they skip any sitting.

Mr. Gicheru  (the father to the child) pleaded his innocence claiming he is taking care of other children who depend on his income for survival.

“I am incapable of harming my own child, the other children depend on me for survival,” said  Mr. Gicheru.

The prosecution led by Dorothy Aswani had objected the bond saying they would interfere with witnesses saying they are the parents of  the child in case.

The parents had been child for subject the child to child's torture.

The court had initially ordered the mother (Ms Ndunge) for a mental examinations to ascertain her sanity on Dec 11 in which the examination revealed that she was sane and able to conduct herself well.

The test was conducted by Thika level 5 medical superintendent Joseph Wanjohi .
