Parents from Giathieko have expressed concerns over what they term as bias in the recent Form One selection.
Speaking today at Giathieko Shopping Centre, the parents claimed that pupils with high marks did not secure admissions at National schools, which was killing the moral of students.
“Top performers have been denied admission of their choices at national schools .This has shattered the pupils' dreams, bearing in mind that they had worked hard to meet their targets,” said Jane Muthoni, her son had attained 412 marks only to get admission at a local secondary school .
“My son did not join the secondary of his choice inspite of performing excellently. I suspect there was rot in the whole selection exercise because many candidates failed to secure schools of their choice,” another parent said
The frustrated parents said that the whole process was open to abuse and urged the government to cancel the whole exercise and start afresh .
The Ministry of Education has defended the new Form One selection process, saying that the exercise was done equitably in all counties to give equal opportunities to all candidates.
