The National and County governments have been called upon to intervene in the case that involves the tragic fire that happened 14 years ago in Kyanguli Mixed Secondary School leading to death of many students.
The tragic event occurred on March 26, 2001 in Kyanguli Mixed Secondary School in Machakos County.
Speaking during the 14th anniversary event on Thursday in Kyanguli Memorial School, the school management Board Secretary Hilary Kitata called upon the government to intervene in the court case that has been stuck in court without any solution.
“As we mark 14 years of grief, we urge the government to intervene and give justice to the parents of the children who perished in the tragic fire on the fateful night of March 26, 2001 that left 67 boys dead,” he said.
According to Kitata, some parents have succumbed to stress from trauma of losing their children in such a tragic manner, and still no justice has been done up to today.
In a twist to the whole saga, the students who were arrested for allegedly starting the fire have been long released from jail.
Kitata however urged the parents of the current students in the school to advice their children against behavioral activities that would lead to loss of own lives or hurting themselves.
14 years ago, the country woke up to the tragedy of a fire that burnt 67 boys to ashes in a dormitory that accommodated students from form 1 to from four aged between 14 to 20 years.
