Parents whose children have been studying at Nyatieko primary school in Kitutu Masaba, Nyamira County have protested the prolonged closure of the school due to lack of toilets for the pupils to use.
The parents accused the area MP Shadrack Mose for moving at a slow speed to have the school reopened after it was closed in April by the health officers from Nyamira County.
"Our children have been at home giving us troubles. We fear that they will turn to be criminals if the school is not re-opened for learning to resume. the area MP should stop giving us a deaf ear whenever we ask him to construct toilets in the school," said Margaret Riang'a a resident.
Another resident Peter Motari said the school has got only 15O pupils and it is a big shame for the Nyamira county government with the help of the area MP to ignore the school management's call to construct the toilets.
"We elected Governor Nyagarama and MP Shadrack Mose. The two leaders should intervene so that learning can resume in the school by Monday next week," he said.
He said the school doesn't have a school head after the teacher who was serving at the school retired last year.
Motari said the government should consider to school and send a school head to run the school effectively.
