After the Education cabinet secretary Fred Matiang'i directed that students will break for holidays on October 24 due to the upcoming October 26 fresh presidential poll, parents have expressed worry following the long election holiday ahead. The National Parents Association says the long holiday may lead to the learners dropping out of school and teen pregnancies."The changes mean children will be at home for more than two months which is quite a long period," the association's chairman Nicholas Maiyo said on Saturday in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county.Noting that the children might be exposed to danger, Maiyo called on parents to be cautious with the students. "We urge parents to take extra care of their children during that period to prevent pregnancy and abuse of drugs and alcohol," he said.Maiyo further indicated there is need to change the election date from August to December since the dates interfere with examinations.
