The National Parents Association has asked worrying factions within the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) to sit down and solve their issues instead of bringing them to the public.
The association's national chairman Nicholas Maiyo says the stalemate can only be solved through dialogue and not sideshows.
“As parents, we are not happy with the way KNUT leaders are fighting each other. This can create anxiety and could be transferred to children leading to poor performance,” said Maiyo in Eldoret town, Thursday.
He expressed concerns that teachers across the country are divided between supporting the embattled Secretary general Wilson Sossion and his deputy Hesbon Otieno, a matter he warned that might affect their teaching effectiveness.
“We want this issues to be solved once and for all for sanity to prevail because it is our children who will suffer,” added Maiyo.
The Parents association chairman, however, requested Parliament to legislate laws that will allow labor movement to nominate one of their members to represent their interests in parliament.
Maiyo noted that the current problem at KNUT is as a result of Sossion being nominated by the party but said: "if he could have been nominated by the movement we could not be in the chaos we are hearing".
