Parents in Pipeline estate, Nakuru County have supported initiatives by teachers to carry out private tuition during the school holidays.
The parents admitted that they were aware of the ban on holiday coaching, but cited that their children needed the holiday learning.
“We are aware that the late Mutula Kilonzo, who was by then the minister of Education warned against tuition, but our children are weak in school and cannot compete against the ones in private schools who are ever learning,” said Emily Mwangi, a parent.
She observed that she had already located a church, which would be converted into a learning center during the holiday.
Jacinta Muthoni, another parent noted that her children had already indicated that they wanted to attend the classes.
“They are begging me to take them back to class. They claim that they cannot spend the whole day playing. I have hence spotted a primary school that they will be attending to for a few days,” she added
Priscilla Njambi on her part said that they will be parting with close to Sh600 for the tuition fee.
“I want the children to have as equal opportunity as those who are going to the boarding schools. I want to help my children pass their examination. I have turned to a local retired teacher who will help me in teaching them,” she added.
