Parents in Naivasha Sub-county have been told to take their teenage children for cancer screening.
Speaking to the press at his office in Naivasha on Thursday, Sub county Medical director Oren Ombiro said that cases of cancer among teenagers are steadily rising.
The official attributed the rise to poor lifestyle among teenagers saying that parents must help their children access cancer screenings.
“I want to urge parents to take their children for cancer screening for early detections and treatment,” he said.
Dr Ombiro said that cancer is treatable and manageable if detected in its early stages.
He observed that over 200 young people aged between 12 and 16 have various cancers especially the cervical type of cancer.
He further observed that cancer cases have risen from four per cent in 2012 to five per cent this year.
The doctor said that the government has planned campaigns meant to encourage cancer awareness and screening.
Ombiro urged the youth to be considerate and engage in activities that will boost their health.
He observed that most non-communicable diseases are caused by poor lifestyle.
The medical director said that through screening, cancer cases will reduce and those found to have it treated.
