The parents who spoke to this writer expressed fears that the national examinations will be affected if teachers go on strike.

Joseph Kinoti, a parent and wholesale owner in Bahati estate said that candidates risk losing out if teachers go on with the planned strike. He asked the government to move with haste and address teachers’ demands to ensure national examination and learning is not interrupted.

The parent said that the government has a responsibility to ensure teachers demands are met or addressed.

Kinoti however accused teachers’ unions of taking advantage of the examination nearing period to strike. He termed the move as selfish and ill timed.

Kinoti’s sentiments were echoed by Marion Karangu who said teachers have complained enough and that their issues should be addressed.

She called on the government to ensure teachers problems are addressed immediately. She indicated that candidates and students stand to lose if teachers actualize their strike threats.

Teachers across the country have vowed to strike if the government fails to increase their pay plus allowances.

Meanwhile, the Parents Association of Kenya chairperson Musau Ndunda has called on teachers to postpone the planned strike until when national exams are over.

He termed the planned strike as ill-timed and meant to scuffle the national examinations that starts today.
