Viwandani Member of County Assembly Eunice Wambui Mureithi said that the process of applying for the funds was still open and the forms were readily available in her offices.

“The turnout has not been as we expected. We are appealing to people to apply for this funds and we will start disbursing them early next year,” she added.

Mureithi cited that students from secondary schools, colleges and tertiary institutions were eligible to apply.

“It is unfortunate that some people drop out of school yet the cash is available to them. We do not want to have drop outs when it can be prevented,” she said.

In an earlier interview, Naivasha MP John Kihagi revealed that his office had signed a contract with the Higher Education Loans Boards (HELB) where his office would be giving out loans to college students which will be returned under HELB.

“They will be able to recover the loans and the interest for the area once the students complete school. We have already set aside one million shillings under this agreement and students should also take advantage of the arrangement,” he added.
