An investor in Kisii County has launched a pilot feeding program in primary schools in a bid to improve the pupils’ education standards and performance in national examinations.
Speaking at Nyangeni primary school in Nyaribari Chache constituency, Ben Mogaka said majority of the pupils hail from poor families, adding the children go to school hungry and end up performing poorly in local and national exams.
He also said he is availing maize and beans to schools to enable standard seven and eight pupils take their lunch in school to help them concentrate on their education.
He appealed to parents and guardians to support their children with basic items to enhance their education and shun relying fully on the government’s Free Primary Education program.
“It is the duty of parents and guardians to buy their children uniforms, pens and send them to school. The government cannot pay for everything” said Mogaka.
The Investor challenged teachers to concentrate their effort at boosting the school’s mean scores and ensure candidates attain higher marks to propel them to secondary schools, colleges and Universities.
