Oyuu argued that after teachers humbled themselves and showed statesmanship by allowing students and pupils to sit for their exams uninterrupted in November, parents now need to reciprocate by supporting the strike.

He said teachers in the Nyanza region are fully prepared for the impending countrywide strike, adding that he had already mobilized the members ahead of the strike which he termed as overdue.

Oyuu who is also the KNUT Executive Sectary for Rarieda sub-branch has at the same time told parents to keep their children at home once the strike begins.

“Please don't let any child go to school when the strike starts, we do not want to punish the children since there will be no teachers in school,” he said.

The executive who was speaking in Rarieda constituency said the holiday will be prolonged, adding that schools will remain closed until when the government shall have heeded to the demands of the Kenyan teachers
