Consequently, parents have been urged to monitor their children's use of the internet especially in the cyber cafes where some spend most of their time during holidays.

Kiambu County Executive Committee (CeC) for youth affairs Machel Waikenda while speaking to youths and parents on Tuesday in Muthure, Kiambu said that children's access to the internet must be regulated.

"We have a very big problem of radicalisation in our country," said Waikenda. "The internet is one of the tools that is being used to lure youngsters into terror groups. Children's access to the internet should be monitored through a collective parenting responsibility," he added.

At the same time the CeC has asked youths not to accept to be lured into terrorism. "If you are God fearing, you love your country and care about your future, then terrorism is not an option," advised Waikenda.

The government through the Communications Authority of Kenya is running a media sensitisation campaign urging the public to safeguard children against negative influence of the internet.
