Parents in Mombasa have been asked not to relent in monitoring their children’s whereabouts.Reachout Centre Trust, a Coast-based anti-drug lobby has urged parents to make frequent visits to their children’s schools to ensure they are properly attending classes. The organisation’s Executive Director Taib Abdulrahman said community trends are changing as children are now being introduced to drug abuse and other illegal activities at a very tender age.Abdulrahman said parents in Mombasa must take their responsibilities seriously and protect their children at all times. He said the anti-drug abuse campaign introduced during the festive season would go on in a bid to educate youth about the negative impact of drug abuse.“We have heard cases where children were used by peddlers to carry and deliver drug pallets to secret destinations in Mombasa since no one would suspect such innocent minds would indulge in drug trafficking or abuse,” he said.Addressing parents at Majengo area in Mombasa on Wednesday, Abdulrahman said parents and their children should be fully involved in the anti-drug abuse campaigns.“If we curb the demand at that very tender age then the suppliers will not get any market for their narcotics. Let’s join hands in protecting our young ones,” he added. The anti-drug activist also called upon the central government through the Anti-Narcotic Police Unit and NACADA to take up their mandate of fighting drug trafficking in the region. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
