Parents and guardians in Lari Sub-County have been urged to help their children discover and nurture their talents.

Shiro Njiru, a talent mentor in Lari, said that young people have talents that can be nurtured for prosperity.

She stated that talent can be turned into a profession that can foster development and help address unemployment among young people.

Ms Njiru observed that many parents were not interested in helping their children discover their talents.

“It is time parents and guardians engaged with their sons and daughters in a bid to help them discover and grow their diverse talents,” she said during a youth mentor-ship forum at Lari grounds on Thursday.

The talent officer observed that unemployment among youth can greatly reduce if young people utilise their talents.

Ms Njiru also said that social evils like drug abuse, prostitution and crime will decline if young people are mentored and educated on how to discover their talents.

“Most of these young people who abuse drugs and engage in crime can be saved from the menace by nurturing their talents,” she noted.

She appealed to the national and county governments to set up talent centers to help grow young talents.

She also urged the government to organize forums where young people can exchange ideas and also discover their various talents.
