Parents urged to stop FGM says Kilimo

Former Anti-FGM board chair Linah Kilimo has urged parents to stop Female Genital Mutilation as it compromises female health during birth.

She said parents should instead take their girls to school and leave them to mature and make their own decisions.

"It is still unfortunate that we are still experiencing such brutal and uncalled acts in our community. We will never allow such fabric coat our society and therefore those found engaging in the acts will face the full force of the law,” she said in Eldoret town, Saturday.

“ The acts make the girl child forgo education and turn the family way hence destroying their future lives leading to early marriages. We refrain from the norm that the girl's position is in the kitchen but instead take them to school since they have equal rights like men,” she added.

She reiterated that although the acts have reduced in the recent past, they are still conducting sensitization programs and meetings to delegate on the same.

“The only way we can change the destiny of our children is by educating them and teaching them the right morals. Marrying off your girl without educating her will bring poverty to the community,” noted Kilimo.
