Parents in Sameta Sub-County have been warned against neglecting special needs children instead they have been urged to treat them as their other normal siblings in education matters.
Eburi DEB Primary School headteacher, Tom Omwange, has raised a red flag over rampant cases of neglect affecting children with special needs in the area.
Speaking to this writer in his School, Omwange who has started an integrated unit to accommodate special needs children in the community regretted that some parents in the area treat such children as bad omen.
"I am reminding all parents from this community that our school has started an integrated unit to accommodate children with special needs. This will help to enhance their social self esteem through interaction and socialization," said Omwange.
Flanked by the school's integrated unit class teacher, Samson Chuma, the headteacher sensitized local communities on the importance of giving the children chance to access education.
Chuma, told this writer that special needs education was a specialized area and needed a lot of concentration from the teachers in charge to ensure the special needs learners access quality education.
"As a teacher, I am encouraging local parents to enroll children with special needs in our integrated unit, to ensure they access education alongside their normal peers and inculcate a culture of self esteem in them," said Chuma.
