Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has put on notice parents who don’t take their children to school but instead use them to earn a living.

He said this was uncalled for since every child has a right to compulsory free education as enshrined in the constitution.

“I have some information that there are some parents who have denied their children right to education but using them as a cash cow. I won’t allow this and those who will be found will face the full force of the law. According to the Children’s Act in Kenya’s Constitution, every child has the right to education and any parent who is not taking a child to school will be arrested and charged,” he said in Eldoret town, Thursday.

“Why should you leave your child a chance to be educated yet the Jubilee government is offering free and compulsory primary and secondary, I think there is something wrong with you,” he added.

He reiterated that there is no any good reason for a child to stay at home since there are funds such as bursaries from both the county and National governments which help them pursue their education.
