A section of parents in Kiambu town want government to lift the ban imposed on holiday tuition.
The parents want the government to allow children to attend holiday tuition saying that move will help them prepare very well for the national examinations.
Speaking to HiviSaSa.Com on Monday, the parents said that holiday tuiton can work if conducted in proper manner.
Stella Mbuthia, a parent said that holiday tuition will sharpen candidates preparing for national examination.
“The government should consider lifting the ban on holiday tuition to allow our students get prepared well for the national examinations later this year,” she said.
Pamela Wambui, a parent in Kiambu said that holiday tuition provides a good environment for kids to prepare for examination.
She said that schools use the holiday tuition to exchange learning materials and experiences with others a move she said helps candidates to comprehend and understand their studies better.
“The Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i should lift the ban on holiday tuition and allow students attend classes over the holiday,” she said.
Jane Wachira, an education counselor in Kiambu however is of the opinion that holiday tuition should remain banned.
She argued that there is no need for tuition during the holidays stating that that time is meant for students to rest and engage in other societal activities.
“Holiday tuition should remain banned so that our kids can have ample time to rest and do other things,” she said.
The government banned holiday tuition three years ago. The government maintains that any teacher or school found conducting tuition risks arrest and prosecution.
