According to the Chairlady of Kisii Parents Association Dorcas Gesare, the deployment of more female teachers in the region will drastically reduce such cases.

She was speaking at St Charles Lwanga Gesero secondary during the price giving early today, Thursday, where she said the school and many more of its surroundings have no female teachers, which she partly blamed as the major contributing factor for the high cases of underage pregnancies in the county.

“Apart from poverty, another factor fueling teenage pregnancies in Kisii region is the lack of female teachers who can speak to the young girls on sexuality and guide and counsel them. They also lack role models,” she said

“I am appealing to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in their next employment drive, to consider employing more teachers of the female gender for both primary and secondary,” added Gesare

She also urged the school girls in the area to avoid irresponsible sexual behaviors that would eventually result to the early pregnancies.
