This comes after a student was burnt using nylon papers at Strait Secondary School in Laini Saba Kibera. The child is said to have been burnt because the teachers believe she was illuminate, something her parents deny. The girl too denied having been involved in any cult.

Her teachers, however, said they were going to use force to obtain more information from her as they were being led by the spirit.

Parents say teachers are using their powers to beat children with the intention of killing them rather than disciplining them.

‘‘Was it necessary for the teachers to have burnt that student? Was it even right? We should not keep quiet because if we do, such punishments will never end,’’ said Loise Wanjiku, a parent in the area.

Another parent, Brian Otieno said the ministry should check up on these small private schools because they are always using corporal punishment to discipline students. He said schools should be monitored daily even if it will force the ministry to come up with questions for the scholars to answer.
