Parents in Nakuru have been warned against people pretending to be teachers and who are out to extort money from them while misguiding their children. Menengai ward representative Michael Macharia said most parents were fond of sending their children for tuition during weekends and holidays some. Addressing pupils, parents and teachers at Teachers primary school in Nakuru during prize awards ceremony to best pupils and teachers, the MCA urged parents to instead collaborate with teachers on how to prepare holiday study. He said the programmes may include printing of study pamphlets to be supervised by parents instead of 'wasting money on bogus private tutors that do not add value to the education of the children'. “I as a parent, [I] understand the stress and pressure we undergo when we leave children behind during working hours," the county lawmaker said. "But we are making a mistake by sending our children to spend time with con people who pretend to be private tutors. Let us work closely with our teachers to prepare holiday study programmes so that our children can continue being busy during holidays." He advised parents to cultivate a high degree of discipline and moral capacity in their children, instead of leaving them to strangers.
