Parents in Kisii county have been warned against chasing away head teachers and locking their offices when in a crisis as the habit gives the head teachers mental anguish.
Speaking at an educational meeting in Itierio Boys today executive secretary of the Kenya National Union of Teachers the (KNUT) Albert Ondimu said they won’t allow that to happen and they will ensure they sue such parents.
The official condemned the act that parents did at Suneka primary school to demonstrate they did not approve of the posting of the new head teacher.
“It is so bad to wake up, go to school and find five padlocks at your office. It is so frustrating,” he lamented.
Ondimu also said when parents do such despicable acts they are simply demoralising teachers’ self-confidence hence, resulting to poor performance in education.
“They will feel unwanted and unloved. Who will wish to live in such an environment,” he added.
Ondimu called on the parents to report cases to the relevant authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands.
He said teachers are going through hardships in the regions in some parts of Kisii County, therefore, they need to be supported instead of being vilified.
He further called on the parents to stop intimidating teachers but give them enough support in their teaching activities and peaceful environment.
