The Kenya National Parents Association Chairman (KNPA) Nicholas Maiyo has warned parents against paying more fees than the stipulated official guidelines.
He said that there are some schools charging more fees than what the Ministry of Education has released.
“It is sad that I have received information from parents that there are some national and extra county schools charging more fees. I want to urge parents to ignore such fees structures and only pay according to the government. Don’t pay extra fees outside the guidelines,” he said in Eldoret town, Saturday.
“We won’t allow our parents to be exploited by few self-centered principals, such principals should be reported and stern actions will be taken against them,” he added.
He, however, urged parents to be actively involved in the education of their children by ensuring that the learning environment for their children is fit for the acquisition of quality education.
According to the Ministry of Education guidelines, the Government will pay Ksh 22,244 per secondary school student in both day and boarding schools.
This means each day school students will get an additional Ksh 9,374 on top of the Ksh 12,870 they receive presently.
The maximum fees payable for boarding schools will be Ksh 53,000 after a Government subsidy per child, per year.
