The residents were encouraged to instead have them arrested so that they can face the law.

Riambase DEB Primary School head teacher, Charles Onchangwa cautioned local community members against the dangers of protecting sex pests in their children lives.

Speaking at the school on Tuesday, during a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Community awareness training conducted by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in partnership with Kisii County Peace Initiative (PIK) and Amjutine Child Care and Protection Centre, Onchangwa warned local parents against settling defilement cases involving their children out of court as it will deny them access to justice.

"If as a head teacher I have ensured the students in this school have my cellphone number to contact me whenever they encounter defilement threats or get defiled so that I take urgent action, why would you as a parents want to betray them by having their perpetrators walk free?" asked Onchangwa.

Onchangwa told parents that their daughters' lives were more precious than the cash they may be promised by those who have defiled their daughters.

Kisii PIK programme coordinator, Christine Opanga, warned parents of defiled daughters against tampering with evidence, especially clothes that their daughters wore during the incident, in a bid to safeguard evidence in seeking justice for their daughters.

"I am warning you against washing clothes which your daughters wore during defilement incidents. You should instead keep them where the evidence will not be interfered with," said Opanga.
