Parents of Riverbank Academy, Nyamemiso shopping centre in Kisii County have been warned against taking cooked foods to the school whenever they visited their children.
The school's headteacher Benard Mautia has cited safety and health concerns as the reasons behind the school administration's banning of cooked foods brought by parents.
Speaking on Sunday at the parents' meeting, Mautia observed that it was a risk for school children to consume cooked foods in the school compound without close supervision by the management as it posed food safety and security threats to the learners.
Mautia said if not controlled, cooked foods could either lead to poisoning or stomach upsets to the learners and disrupt their concentration in education.
"As a school management, we have banned parents from bringing cooked foods to the school compound while visiting their children in the school as it poses food safety and security threats to the learners," stated Mautia.
He challenged parents to give their children's education first priority instead of treating them to merry-making in the school when they visit them.
