Parents within Nyanza region have welcomed the fee guidelines released by the government for public secondary schools.
There has been an outcry from parents and other education stake holders over the high school fees in public schools.
Speaking in kisumu on Sunday, Nyanza Parents Association Chairman Jackson Ogweno said at last parents can breathe a sigh of relief.
Ogweno said the Kenya Education sector has very good policies, but implementing them becomes a problem.
‘It will help a lot in relieving parents who were over burdened with the heavy school fees that they have had to pay,” said Ogweno.
The education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi, while releasing the new guideline said secondary schools has now been capped at Sh9374 per year for day schools, while boarding is at Sh53,553 annually, and parents with children in special schools would be required to pay only Sh37,210 annually.
Kaimenyi said the new guidelines apply to all public secondary schools regardless of whether they are national, extra county or county schools.
Ogweno however urged the education ministry to ensure that there will be serious supervision being done in schools.
