Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has said parents will have to pay for destruction of property caused by the rioting students following the recently reported school unrest.

Speaking in an interview, Matiang'i asked parents to take responsibility and be good examples to their children.

"Punishments like canning demeans our children.We have to take responsibility for our actions and students should know that they have better ways of expressing their grievances. These students need to be taught alternative methods of handling any concerns," said Matiang'i.

The CS also said students involved in school strikes will not be admitted in other schools.

Nyamache Boys High School in Kisii County, Kericho High and Tengecha High in Kericho County, Kaplong Boys, K.Salat Secondary School and Longisa High in Bomet County are some of the schools that have been involved in the recent unrest.
