The worried parents, most of whose children would be candidates this year, fear that the strike might extend longer and thereby affect their children's performance.

A spot check by this writer indicates that most children being moved from public to private academies are in primary schools unlike their secondary school counterparts.

Samson Mwangi, one of the parents who moved all his three children from a public primary school to a Nairobi based private school said he was bored and tired with the teachers’ strike that had a negative impact on the children’s performances.

"I am tired of the continuous on and off teachers’ strikes year in, year out," said Mwangi.

Mwangi said as a parent, he was embarrassed to see other Kenyans continue with their education in private schools as he kept his own in the house as he initially waited for the strike to end.

He urged the national government to consider the teachers demands and come to an agreement to enable them resume work.
