A teenager, Edward Zakayo, won a bronze medal after he emerged position three in the 5000 metres race on Sunday morning in Gold Coast, Australia. The 5000 metres race had been won by Ugandan athlete, Joshua Cheptegei registering a gold medal for his country.

Another Kenyan, Samuel Gathimba, participating in the 20 kilometres walking race bagged bronze medal after he found himself in the third place. This meant Kenya had only two medals so far in the ongoing 21st edition of the commonwealth games.

Kenya had initially suffered in other areas of the competitions after dismal outing by athletes in the fields such as boxing.

Elsewhere, in France, the 42nd edition of the Paris marathon was wholly a Kenyan affair in both men and women races.Paul Lonyangata won the men's marathon while United State- based athletic Betsy Saina won her first major title in the women's event.

As Paul Lonyangata clocked 2 hours 6 minutes and 21 seconds to emerge the winner in the men's race, Saina finished in 2 hours 22 minutes and 56 seconds.

Kenyan athletics are looking forward to registering more appealing results in the commonwealth games despite a very slow start.
