The county government of Nairobi has put on spot motorists over failure to pay parking fees.
City Inspectorate Department reported it has introduced breakdown lorries to tow away vehicles whose owners evade parking fees.
Parking Director Joyce Kyengo estimated that about 1,000 vehicles were defaulting on parking fees daily.
"Motorists must pay up. The lorries have been there since last week as part of new measures to enforce parking fees payment," she said on Tuesday.
Kyengo said the department acquired new towing vehicles in a move aimed at preventing mishandling of vehicles.
"Previously, when towing was done with the normal tow trucks, motorists complained about damage to their cars," she told The Standard.
"The lorries will change that because they are being operated by professionals."
Kyengo further said the new measures are aimed at streamlining revenue collection.
In 2017, it is estimated the county lost over Sh18 million every month in parking fees due to corruption.
"The new towing method will increase the amount of fines and serve as a stern warning to defaulters," Kyengo added.
