MPs on Thursday approved his appointment, saying he was fit to help the Authority achieve its mandates.

This is after the National Assembly Security and National Administration Committee approved him.

Githiri has been serving as the director of the Institute of Professional Security Studies, and takes over from the outgoing John Mututho, who eyes the Nakuru gubernatorial seat in the 2017 general polls.

Mututho who has since recommended Gitari to his new post, was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta in September 2013 and has served at the anti-drug agency for three years.

Mututho said the appointment was done on merit, adding that the new Nacada boss was a professional.
