The Parliamentary Service Commission has gone to court to stop the implementation of a Salaries and Remunerations' order to reduce salaries of members of parliament. The PSC contends that the SRC's Gazette notice is an unacceptable and unconstitutional usurpation of powers.According to the commission, the responsibility of MPs salaries should be left to it and no other commission.''The impugned decision unlawfully seeks to vary to their advantage and detriment, the remuneration and benefits payable to the state officers serving in Parliament contrary to basic labour law and practice and the need to secure the independence of parliament as a governance institution.'' The PSC has contended in its court document seen by the People's Daily. The issue of MPs salaries has been an ongoing issue with the legislators seeking to have powers to set their own salaries.
