The Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) has indicated that it has already completed preparing a vetting report about seven nominees to the chairman and commissioners posts at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
JLAC chairman Ainabkoi Member of Parliament Samuel Chepkonga said they had notified the Speaker of the National Assembly and were only awaiting to table the report before the House when MPs convene for a special sitting to debate the report.
MPs are expected to meet Tuesday (Today) for the special sitting.
He said there is a possibility that the IEBC will have a new team by next week, since they found no reason to disqualify names of the seven nominees that president Uhuru Kenyatta submitted to parliament after interviews by the IEBC selection panel chaired by Bishop Benedette Musundi.
If approved by the Assembly, the seven names will be forwarded to the president for a swearing-in ceremony, after which they will officially take over from the outgoing Ahamed Issack Hassan-led team.
The seven nominees include Advocate Wafula Wanyonyi Chebukati (chairman) and commissioner nominees: Consolata Nkatha Bucha Maina, Boya Molu, Roselyn Kwamboka Akombe, Paul Kibiwot Kurgat, Margaret Wanjala Mwachanya and Abdi Guliye.
