Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has asked his Embakasi East counterpart Babu Owino to tow the line as a legislator.

Speaking in his constituency, Wambugu criticised Babu for using derogative terms in an apparent reference to the President.

"Owino should know Parliament is not a campus, where he was dealing with Sonu students. He should respect leaders," he remarked.

He further lauded the police for swiftly apprehending the Opposition lawmaker, saying that hate speech should not be tolerated.

Babu was arraigned in court on Tuesday, where he was charged with subversion.

He was later granted bail on Wednesday, only to be rearrested moments later.

Opposition coalition NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga condemned the rearresting of the legislator, accusing the state of failing to uphold the rule of law.
