If passed, the Betting, Lotteries and Gaming (Amendment) Bill will check on the number of gaming premises established in a certain area, ban advertisements of gambling and impose heavy fines against companies which allow underage children to bet.

It also provides that all funds generated from gambling be deposited at a bank account for taxation prevention of money laundering.

Midiwo’s proposes that a family member must apply to the Kenya Betting Control and Licensing Authority for a member to be recognised as an “excluded person”, this meaning that the person will be barred from gambling so that they do not squander family resources.

The Bill is already in Parliament after being tabled by Midiwo last week.
