President Uhuru Kenyatta has called on parliament to pass the two thirds gender rule.
According to Uhuru, the move will be a form of appreciation to Kenyan women.
Speaking on Thursday during the requim mass of her sister Margret Kenyatta, the head of state said that women significantly contributed to the country's liberation and the achievements that followed.
"As we celebrate Margaret today, I would also like to celebrate all women. We have a responsibility to work together and ensure that the two thirds gender rule is passed so that women can take their rightful place,” he said at St Andrews.
He remembered the former Nairobi Mayor as a strong woman.
"Margaret was a strong woman who has been a pillar to our family,"
The desceadd served as the mayor of Nairobi from 1970 to 1976.
