An Independent candidate for the Maragua MP seat, in Murang'a County, has been charged with sodomy and sexual assault.
Sam Wairimu was arraigned before Kandara Law Courts, where Chief Magistrate Margaret Kurumbu released him on a Sh150,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount, after he denied the charges.The 29-year-old was accused of sodomising a victim in a room at Storm Pub Lodge in Kenol, July 14.
The case will be mentioned, August 1, with hearing slated for October 17, 2017.
He however accused his political rivals, of being behind the case.
By Tuesday evening, the accused had not yet raised the bond and was remanded at Thika GK Prison, according to the Daily Nation.
