The National Assembly has formed an 11-member committee to investigate betting companies in the country.
The committee which will be chaired by National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and Minority Leader Jakoyo Midiwo, is set to investigate claims of tax evasion and money laundering by the betting firms.
Last week, the legislators proposed the crafting of a Bill that will control betting.
Speaking on Friday, Duale blamed the decline in education standards to the betting craze that is currently being witnessed in the country.
The Garrisa Town MP said the current trend is worrying as many students engage in gambling at very early stages of their lives.
His call for regulation of the industry was supported by several MPs, who said taxes from the industry can boost the economy.
The committee is expected to table its findings and recommendations in 14 days.
Other members of the committee are Samuel Chepkonga (Ainabkoi), Thomas Mwadeghu (Wundanyi), Samuel Gichigi (Kipipiri), Benjamin Langat (Ainamoi) and Kanini Kega (Kieni).
