Siaya representative of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) Murei Asewe has encouraged disabled persons from the county to participate in development issue despite their status.
Asewe, who is also a member of county assembly in Siaya County, observed that most PWDs in the County were still lagging behind on issues pertaining to development because they thought they did not stand a better chance to take part in such. He added that disability was not inability to them.
“It is high time the PWDs ceased from that negative attitude and started engaging themselves in progressive activities just like other normal people,” said Asewe.
He pointed out that there were lots of businesses which could generate income for the PWDs to help them improve their living standards as well as boosting the country’s economy.
“Depending on other people for support will never change your lives,” added Asewe while addressing PWDs in Bondo Sub-county during a sensitisation programme aimed at encouraging the PWDs to join the proposed Siaya County Disabled Economic Sacco which will be launched early next year.
He also added that forming their own Sacco would give a clear indication that they could invest on their own and to also prove to the PWDs that they could actually venture in businesses using their own savings from the Sacco.
