Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has asked law enforcers in the county to work closely with residents in bid to tame cases of crime.
Addressing residents at Limuru Town on Monday, Wamatangi said that police need to establish good working relations with the residents for them to share information on the whereabouts of criminals.
The Kiambu senate lawmaker said that cases of insecurity and petty crimes will be effectively curbed if there are good relations between the police and the people.
“Law enforcement agencies and the police must put in place strategies that will create good working relations between them and the members of the public in order to fight crime effectively,” said Wamatangi.
The senator noted that many residents still fear police hence feel reluctant to give out information.
Wamatangi lauded the introduction of the Nyumba Kumi security initiative saying that it can help restore law and order.
The senator asked the police to educate residents about the initiative noting that many residents are still not aware of community policing.
Wamatangi also urged the county security apparatus to maintain law and order in the county.
He said that cases of crime had gone down in the past one month adding that much more has to be done to eradicate crime.
Meanwhile, the senator condoled with families and relatives of the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldiers who lost their lives in Somalia following an attack on their camp on Friday.
The senator urged Kenyans to pray for the families and relatives of the fallen soldiers.
