The Party of National Unity (PNU) is not backing the National Super Alliance (NASA) for the August 8 elections.
Speaking at Marania Forest in Buuri Sub-County during a conservation programme, party leader Peter Munya accused Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi and Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi of spreading the propaganda that he was campaigning for Raila Odinga in the Meru region.Addressing Jubilee rallies in the area on Sunday, Kiraitu and Linturi accused Munya of funding NASA campaigns in Meru, including providing money to local administrators to lobby and ferry crowds to attend opposition rallies. However, Munya denied the claims, accusing his rival of trying to portray himself as a Uhuru’s greatest ally for political expediency.“Those are the last kicks of a dying horse as he is old, outdated and lacks strategies to the campaign. Painting himself as foremost defender of the Uhuru presidency will not save him from his political waterloo,” the governor said. The PNU leader affirmed that his party is strongly supporting the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August polls.“PNU was the first party to hold a National Delegates Congress to endorse President Uhuru Kenyatta. We are also going to hold another one with the President later on in the month to reaffirm our commitment to support him,” Munya added.
