Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Esther Passaris has opposed the party-hopping law terming it 'a way to shut down leaders who will lose nominations from political parties'.
She argued that the law will undermine democracy since in the past, politicians who lost nominations from one party moved to other parties for nominations and such leaders were elected to serve the people.
"The law is aimed to kill democracy in the country. Leaders should not be denied freedom to seek party nominations to vie for political seats in 2017. The party-hopping law should not be followed as political parties are expected to conduct party nominations ahead of 2017 polls," she said.
She urged politicians to ensure that they join parties that will nominate them to vie for political seats in 2017.
"Good politicians may miss party nominations due to the party-hopping law. Such leaders should join political parties that have no competitors to get party nominations since the party does not elect a leader," she added.
