The first-time MP took the initiative to educate city residents on the importance of adopting cycling as an alternative means of transport in East and Central Africa's largest city.

Passaris who was in company of a dozen female riders rode her bicycle from Kenyatta Avenue to Panari Hotel along Mombasa Road and back to the Central Business District, covering 15 kilometres.

"From Kenyatta Avenue all the way to Panari Hotel on Mombasa Road and back to the Central Business District all under 45 minutes with an incredible team of mostly female cyclists trying to raise awareness about cycling as an alternative mode of transportation in our ever congested city," the MP said after the ride.

She said the only way Nairobians can ever overcome the challenge of traffic jams is by adopting cycling.

Nairobi is among cities in the world with the most congested roads according to the 2017 Traffic Index lists. Some of the city's roads which are prone to traffic jams include Mombasa Road, Langata Road, Waiyaki Way, Thika Super Highway and Jogoo Road.

There are currently plans to ban Passenger Service Vehicles (PSVs) from the city centre as the administration of Governor Mike Sonko moves in to control traffic jams.
