More than 50 passengers travelling in a bus belonging to Dreamline Company escaped unhurt in a road accident along Mombasa Road on Tuesday morning.
The 10am accident that occurred 200 metres from stage 39 bridge in Athi River town involved three vehicles- the bus, a truck belonging to Bash Hauliers Company and a pick up.
Athi River Base Commander Moses Kimeli who spoke to this writer at the scene said the pickup which was headed to Nairobi attempted to overtake the bus before noting an oncoming truck.
Mr Kimeli said the truck driver successfully evaded hitting the pickup but in the process engaged in a head on coalition with the bus pushing it off the road.
The bus landed into a ditch on the road side.
There were no injuries though the vehicles were seriously damaged.
Kimeli said all the passengers continued with their journey after they were transferred to a rescue bus belonging to the same company which took them to Nairobi.
He said the truck which was filled with sacks of maize was so heavy that a normal break down could not recover it from the scene of accident.
The police used a crane belonging to the Standard Gauge Railway contractor, China Road and Bridge Corporation to lift the truck.
It took the police one hour to clear the scene of the accident, wreckages of all the vehicles were towed to Athi River Police Station.
Kimeli said drivers should neither overtake nor overlap because the road was slippery due to the ongoing rains.
