Travelling to and fro Kibera is now turning into a nightmare as the matatus plying the area have been reported to host a good number of bedbugs.
According to concerned residents of Kibera who use the matatus to their workplaces on a daily basis, the menace is now becoming real as a greater percentage of the PSV vehicles, especially those with tattered seats are 'badly' infested.
"These matatus plying route 8B to Kibera are heavily infested, especially the (name withheld) Sacco. They should do something with their seat cushions. I prefer using bodaboda to town though it is very expensive," said Njogu, a banker living in Makina.
Similar concerns were also raised by the matatu conductors who admitted that the menace is real.
"These bedbug menace is real and it is very hard to control them. Once they invade the seats, it is very difficult to do away with it," said Ben, a matatu conductor.
Nairobi is rapidly turning a home to the hard-to-control parasites with even big learning institutions being affected.
