A 47 year-old pastor was on Friday morning caught red-handed stealing vegetables from a neighbor’s farm in Naka Estate, few kilometers from Nakuru town.
The Pastor identified as Zedekia Wanyonyi of a local church in Free area was caught plucking kales from the neighbour’s farm at around 4am.
The pastor who also works as a care taker in one of the premises in Naka, is believed to be part of gang that is believed to be behind cases of breaking into people’s compounds and stealing valuables before they escaping by climbing the perimeter walls.
The owner of the farm Allan Njenga, said that for a long time he has lost properties worth thousands of shillings which to a gang which he believed Wanyonyi is part of.
He said he heard movements outside his house at around 4am and went out to confirm only to find the man plucking his vegetables.
"I heard something stepping out and decided to confirm what was going, when I went out I caught this man busy plucking my vegetables," Njenga.
Njenga threaten to shoot the culprit, a fact that forced the pastor to surrender himself, his accomplice escaped by climbing the perimeter wall as he engaged the pastor.
"They were two but the other one climbed the wall quickly and run away as I was talking this one," said an agitated Njenga.
Njenga who is a lecturer at a local varsity locked Wanyonyi in his store until 8am when he took him at Central Police Station.
The man of God had reportedly already filled a 50kg sack and ready to escape when he was arrested
Area assistant chief John Ngeno who called to confirm the incident said the pastor is just one of the criminals that have been terrorising people in the estate for a while now
He promised to take action to make sure the law takes its course.
